Conference for World Soil Day . Zahedan (Iran), 14/12/2025 - 14/12/2025. World Soil Day 2025 is not merely a symbolic ceremony; it is a global call for urgent action. Healthy soil is the foundation for combating climate change, ensuring food production, and preserving the natural cycles of water and nutrients. The success of this event hinges on translating slogans and commitments into tangible actions and real investments at the level of farms, communities, and nat... Register!

Measuring Soil nutrients.

Image
Soil nutrients are essential for high agricultural productivity, which can only be obtained when all nutrients are in the optimal supply range. Plant available phosphorus can be used as an indicator of chemical soil nutrients as it is a stable element, and its mobility in the soil is limited. When measuring soil nutrients , laboratories may provide a complete analysis containing values for nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K). Plant available phosphorus was chosen given the nature of its mobility, but N and K can also be consid

Improve soil water management.

Image
A sustainably managed soil has rapid water infiltration, optimal soil water storage of plant available water and efficient drainage when saturated. However, when these conditions are not met, waterlogging and water scarcity problems arise. On the one hand waterlogging, which is related to the saturation of soil with water, creates rooting problems for many plants, thereby reducing yields, and can cause contaminants such as arsenic and methylmercury to become mobile in the soil. On the other hand, water scarcity occurring in areas where water is lost by evaporation, surface runoff and percolation, can cause crop failure. • In humid areas where precipitation exceeds evapotranspiration, additional drainage systems are needed to provide aeration for root functions like nutrient uptake. This is a concern especially in fine-textured soils which have high water retention capacity. • Surface and sub-surface drainage systems should be installed and maintained to control rising groundwater...
